Yes kiddies using steroids is cool! What are they thinking?

Olympics/Torch Relay: Terminator Arnie takes on protesters

(AFP) – 1 hour ago

VANCOUVER — Olympic protesters could have their hands full if they attempt to disrupt the torch relay after organisers announced that Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger would be one of the runners carrying the flame.

The movie-star, who is now the California governor, was named as one the torch bearers who will help ferry the flame to the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics here on Friday.

A collection of different protest groups, who have demonstrated against the huge cost of the Olympics, are believed to be planning to disrupt proceedings to further hammer home their point.

"We are not worried about disruptions," said John Furlong, the chief executive of organising committee VANOC.

"If people come to express their views, we hope it's respectful and it's done peacefully. We hope that people who have waited 10 years to see the ceremonies will be allowed to do so.

"We have a great security team and they will determine how it's managed in and outside the BC Place (the venue for the opening ceremony)."

Schwarzenegger was named as one of a number of celebrity torch relay runners.

He will hand the flame to Sebastian Coe, the head of the 2012 London Olympics organising committee, while Canadan singing star Michael Buble will be the final runner on Thursday.

The torch relay for the 2010 Games has covered 45,000km, the longest domestic relay in Olympic history.

Furlong added that 10,000 people on Monday watched the relay pass through the British Columbia town of Mission, the home town of Jack Poole, the man who brought the Games to Vancouver but who died of cancer last year.

Unbelievable. This most definitely transmits the wrong message.

I really don't see an issue with this at all.

He's a steroid abuser.
He's admitted to abusing women.
He's American.
etc...

Yea - I am not getting this either. Apparently just one of the many "celebrities" who will carry the torch on its final approach.

Arnold is a dufus of the highest order.

I don't care about what he did in his personal life. I'm just wondering why an American is participating in one of the last legs of the torch relay. The London people make sense, but the governor of California? I don't get it.

And why is it that when people make mistakes in their past, no matter what they do since then, some people can't give them a second chance? He took steroids. They were legal at the time he took them. Did you know he saved a man's life? That's gotta count for something.

I agree with this entire post.

I think the people carrying the torch for the last legs should be Canadian and athletes. Surely to God they could find a hockey player or something..?

My point is that he used steroids, I don't care who he is. Do you think it would be ok if Ben Johnston carried the torch?

The use of steroids is a big deal, this is hypocritical of the committee.

Arnold wasn't in the Olympics. And when he used steroids, they were legal. I don't think it is an issue.

The olympic spokesman who said it's because of his stance on environmental issues is full of s#!t. Without a doubt, it is because of the current government's love of all things American, and more specifically republican.

The man has done more for the promotion of physical fitness over the years than nearly anyone else. Not to mention the fact that his wifes family started the Special Olympics.

I don't care that the man used steroids 30 years ago when its use when they were perfectly legal to use and acceptable in the sport.

There were hundreds of other "non canadian" sponsors who ran the torch as well...I am sure some of these corporate bigwigs who ran have done more harm in a day than Arnold has in his entire life.

I just did some googling to try and find out if Salt Lake City winter games had any Canadians carrying the torch...can't find anything though!!

Not that I really care, but it'd be interesting to know ;)

Your point is ...
The steroid use I heard (he was a body builder in the 70's & the Terminator in the 80's- what to expect ?), American papers - check, clarify on his abuse of women if you would or did he just lay on his groupies heavy like?
