This is quite a thread... sounds like the food sucks and the owner likes to hit the customers upside da head - is it only the Summerside 55+ crowd who likes a good scrap with dinner and an idiot son in law story? If they are have quality, HR issues (ie brawling) they are screwed I bet as the New Maid Marion spot across the street will take up any customers - same fare just faster, hotter and the owners are peaceful. Does the GJ' s franchise company even exist any more? We went to GJ chtown in 70's/80's regularily and I even threw a few fisty cuffs with friends at the gong show myself just for fun in Univer. It was the Old Abby launch

Still waiting for the police to conduct their "investigation". I assume if they are taking this long nothing will be done.

I had a gift certificate for GJ's and decided to use it today. I called ahead and talked to the guy (manager - forget his name) and asked him what kinds of salads he had. He said caesar and garden. I asked if they had chef? He said yes...I told him I'd like that but with NO tomatoes. He was rushed on the phone; I figured they must have been busy (it was 11:30).
At noon I went in to pick up the salad. I gave him the gift certificate and he rang it in and said, "no change since it's a donation...enjoy your salad". He then took off and sat down with a guy who was sitting at a table. Okayyyy.
I went back to my office and opened the salad -- it was FULL of tomatoes. And not the kind you can pick off. They were the chopped up, mushy kind and I was gagging picking them out. (HATE tomatoes).
The salad was okay...better than a lot of places, despite the tomatoes. It had a lot of ingredients, but I'd have made a better one at home.
Got rid of a gift certificate at least.

GJ's had donated the certificate to a benefit. We bought a basket of items at the auction and it had the GC in it. I guess that's why...

this restaurant ( if you can call it that) is fast becoming a "spot to avoid". its quite apparent the manager has no skills what so ever in running a business, or dealing with people.
basically, the word "tool" jumps to mind as a description for him.
you know, it would do him a huge favour for him to be sent th is thread. but by the sounds of it i dont think he'd understand the reasoning behind it being sent.

So basically Gentleman Jim's will donate to a charitable cause, but will not honor the full amount of their donation.
Nice.

Nice. thats what i was thinking. he could have marked the balance . Couldnt have been too large an amount if all she got was a salad!

Nice. thats what i was thinking. he could have marked the balance . Couldnt have been too large an amount if all she got was a salad! The salad came to ten dollars and the gift certificate was for $15. It's not a big deal to me, him keeping the "change". It was more of the way he said it and took off before I could say anything else...the guy has an intimidating personality and it's not appropriate for his line of work, imo.

I think the food is very average there, except for the steak, but sometimes you get one that isn't so good. Also, I love their whole clams. Their plates are full and the prices are good. The place needs major decor. It looks like the 80s in there. The service is wonderful! I go there when I get bored of chinese, which is not too often, or when my parents want to go because they love the steak there, but that's about it.

I go here if my grandmother wants to go out for supper in Summerside. She fits in at this place much better than anyone under 50 does.
